Amanita Design is a Google Play developer. They have a few really good adventure games under their belt. They include the legendary Machinarium, Samorost 3, and Botanicula. Machinarium is a very popular puzzle game. You play as a robot. Your goal is to solve puzzles and save your girlfriend from vagabonds. Samorost 3 is an adventure puzzle game surrounding a gnome and his magic flute. Botanicula is about a group bugs trying to save their tree’s seed from bad guys. They all have a similar feel to their mechanics. They’re also all pay-once games.

Ace Attorney games

Your job is to take on the court system to get your clients the win. The games are fairly expensive. The first goes for $15.99 and the other goes for $19.99. Hilariously enough, it’s more expensive if you buy it for the Nintendo 3DS. For once, going mobile is the better deal.

Crashland is already among the best adventure games from 2016. You play as a space trucker named Flux. The game starts with you crashing onto an alien planet. Your job is to retrieve your cargo, build yourself a base, fight bad guys, and save the world. It has a lot of game elements, including crafting, combat, RPG-style character leveling, and you can even tame creatures to fight for your side. It’s a deep game with a ton of content that you can play on both mobile and PC. It’s 4.8 rating on Google Play is accurate.

It also has controller support, tons of achievements, and more. It’s a freemium game which means you’ll be pestered to buy stuff from time to time, but aside from that, this has earned its mark among the best adventure games out there.

There is also online play supported for both PvP and co-op so you can play online with or against friends. It’s inexpensive and there’s a ton of adventuring to do!

You’ll navigate a level, solve the puzzles, and make it to the next part of the story. The stories aren’t super deep or anything. However, they do tend to be enjoyable. Each game has unique mechanics from the game series it came from. Hitman GO has more guns. Lara Croft GO takes place in an ancient ruin. You can’t go wrong with any of these adventure games.

They also contain Android Wear support so you can actually play on your watch and Lifeline will send you a notification when it’s time for you to make another decision. They’re relaxing, but highly engaging and they’re inexpensive with no in-app purchases.

Out There is a sci-fi survival story about an astronaut that wakes up from cryogenic sleep in some mysterious part of the galaxy. Your job is to survive in the harshness of space, make friends with alien species, fix and enhance your ship, and there is a storyline that you play through. It’s a difficult game and one that will have you scratching your head and thinking tactically in order to survive. The game also comes with 59 achievements, a leaderboard, over 350 decisions that you’ll have to make, a crafting system, and, oddly, no combat. It’s one of the better adventure games out there.

Rockstar has a bunch of excellent adventure games. There are currently three Grand Theft Auto ports, two mobile Grand Theft Auto titles, and Bully. All these games have a similar premise. You’ll get to explore an open world. There is a story line to follow and plenty of side quests to do. The controls can be a little frustrating from time to time. However, they work mostly well. The GTA games are mostly about crime. Bully is mostly about high school. All of the games cost either $4.99 or $6.99 with no in-app purchases.

Cube Escape is a series of mystery-adventure games where you must solve puzzles to find out what’s really going on. It’s also known as the “Rusty Lake story” and it’s actually playable online as a web game as well. The mechanics are fairly simple and each game has you solving a variety of puzzles in order to progress in the story. It’s technically they are escape games which means the majority of the time you’ll be solving puzzles. Still, it’s an excellent series of games and all of them are free with no in-app purchases making them the cheapest adventure games you can get.

Secret of Mana

Secret of Mana is an action-RPG style game. It first hit store shelves in the 1990’s. It’s known for being easily accessible by both beginners and experts in the genre and employs a unique menu system, touch controls that are well done, and a pretty decent storyline. The premise is that you and your friends will battle the empire for control of the all powerful Mana. It’s a fun little game although it does run a little bit expensive. Square Enix has re-released a lot of their earlier titles and most of them make for excellent adventure games.

Several of them are free to start, including Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead Seasons 1, 2, and 3, Batman, Minecraft Story Mode, Tales from the Borderlands, and The Wolf Among Us. Each game has puzzle and adventure elements with fleshed out storylines and decent graphics. They’re all fairly excellent adventure games and worth a download.

This War of Mine

This War of Mine is an excellent survival game and our pick for the best Android game released in 2015. In this, you play as a group of war survivors inside of a city currently being occupied by the enemy. Your job is to keep your little collective alive by gathering supplies, crafting things, and making some ridiculously hard choices. The game’s hallmark feel is that it’s not necessarily fun, but it’s really interesting and it’s a game you’ll likely want to replay to see if you can do things differently. It’s expensive, but worth it. It is that good.

To the Moon

To the Moon is one of the newer adventure games. You play as two scientists. The scientists fulfill people’s final wishes by injecting memories into their brain shortly before death. The goal of the game is to help a man named Johnny go to the moon. You’ll traverse through his memories as you try to piece things together. The game has a bunch of puzzles for you to solve. There is no combat or anything like that. Just you, some memories, and some puzzles to solve. It runs for $4.99 with no in-app purchases.

Ys Chronicles II

Ys Chronicles are two jRPG games. They were popular in the early 2000’s. They employ hack-and-slash mechanics and the story revolves around finding the six sacred books that are used to banish the demons from the Esteria kingdom. In the second game, the story continues further. That means you’ll definitely need to start with the first one. The mechanics work extremely well on a touch screen and they’re relatively inexpensive. DotEmu has a bunch of other excellent console ports.
